Lunch Walk

Forecast called for a rainy evening and so during a sunny lunchtime I got out and walked 1.0. I changed out of my heels and put on my Sketchers. I didn't realize it at the time but my decision to not put on socks was costly. By the end of my walk my left pinky toe had developed a blister. I felt it forming for a while and just tried to suck it up and finish the walk with the hope I didn't have a blister. But I did and so I put a band-aid on it and changed back into my heels and enjoyed sitting down again.

In the evening the storms held off and it was a sunny 80 degree night. I had my first Gaelic Football practice of the season and we scrimmaged for about an hour after doing some basic drills. I played Midfield and so did a whole lot of running. And unlike last year it felt good and I felt fit! I was going decently hard but nothing crazy but it still felt good and it was fun to kick the ball again.

Mini-Moon Walks and Runs

Thursday, April 26 - After a morning doing all the last minute travel prep for our Mini-Moon to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary, like buying healthy snacks for the road trip, I got onto the treadmill and walked 1.0 miles after Ryan ran 3. I did 1.0 miles in 14:21 163cals 1% while playing Fluffy birds and listening to NPR.

Friday, April 27 - After indulging in various bad foods and beer after reaching our Mini-Moon, on Friday evening before our large dinner we went on a 1.25 mile walk on a section of the "Rails to Trails" near where we were staying.

Saturday, April 28 - On Saturday I awoke early and mustered myself out of bed and ready to run at 8:30. I then went on a 27:05 minute run on the Rails to Trails but in the opposite direction of our previous walk. I then also ran some on the roadways near where we were staying. I did just over 3.0 miles running and rounded out the final .25 walking. Total Workout: 3.25 miles.

Sunday, April 29 - After a Saturday of additional indulgence of food, beer, and friends we got back home and Ryan went to hockey and then at 7pm I found myself headed out the door to get a walk in. I walked for 45 minutes or so and did 2.25 miles.

I feel good for having done some exercise on the Mini-Moon, but clearly my over indulgence far exceeded anything good I did for myself these last 4 days since I gained 4 pounds. I hope I get those pounds back off of me as quickly as I put them on.

3 miles in 25:28

Walk at lunch in sunshine and 60 degrees. Then after work I went on a really fast 3 miler. It felt fast, was fast, and involved me pushing myself to go fast. I had a bit of a cramp in my right side but didn't let that slow me down. I'd just take a few deeper breaths to try to ease it up. And I plugged away. I was ahead of pace the whole time so I told myself to get a sub-27:00 run. In the final mile I knew I was still ahead and had a chance to do well and so I ran and ran and ran and as I crossed back into my driveway I stopped my watch and I discovered I ran the 3 miles in 25:28! Fastest road time yet! (8:30 mile pace). I raised my hands in victory then walked until I caught my breath.

Lunch Wallk

Lunch Walk on a sunny 50 degree day with guts of wind at 25mph. It was rather nice out when it wasn't windy. The only problem was it was windy the whole time.

In the evening it warmed up to 55 degrees for soccer practice. I did a lot of hustling around as I was a part of drills and demos. So it was a good workout even for me.

Notivation

No motivation to do anything. I feel pathetic and like I should have the energy and motivation to walk or run but I had nothing. Finally at 10:30pm I put on my tennis shoes and walked 1.0 miles at 4.3mph in 14:00 163cals and played Fluffy birds on the Kindle while listening to Jack Black on NPR's Fresh Air. I felt more energized afterwards, but still not super motivated.

Tired Run/Walk

Still suffering from the cold, mainly in my chest, but I couldn't not do something any longer. It was raining outside so I went onto the treadmill and walked .5 then ran 1 mile at 6.2mph (9:40) then walked .25 then ran another mile at the same pace and then walked .25. I listened to NPR news during my workout. I felt really tired the whole time - like when your body is worn down from sickness or a cold and you try to do something beyond just sitting there; it requires a lot of energy and you wonder why you are continuing to do it. Total Workout: 3.0 in 33:21 475cals 1%.

3 Miler

3 miles in 27:18. I wore my water bottle belt. It was hot, sunny, nice. I did feel like quitting and taking walking breaks  but I forced myself to keep running. I reminded myself it was just 3 miles max and that a few weeks ago I was able to do 13 and so I need to still be able to do at least 3 without stopping. Tpday between coaching soccer, running, and watching Ryan cut down trees my left side got sunburned -- so now I am half really red, half really white.

Long Awaited Walk

I blame the cold snap and the fact that I spent Wednesday night in a smoky bar on the fact that I developed a horrible cold. My nose was so runny and my throat so very sore and it was hard to do any exercise let alone stay awake. I wanted to walk but knew I couldn't. So these past few days I just sat and waited this cold out. And then on top of it I was fighting off a migraine. So after a few days of this I awoke this morning to a much better feeling me. Still not good enough to run but good enough to stay awake and only worry about some sniffling. After a relaxing day of reading I got Ryan to go on a 1.0 mile walk with me around our neighborhood. The air was chilly but it was nice to get that fresh air and at least finally cross another off my Journey 1500 list.

Lunch Walk

Around 1pm Matt and I took the usual 1 mile walk. Unusually we came across 2 turkeys chilling in a green area of our office park. We stopped and stared at them for a bit. They gobbled some; as turkeys do. We also watched some grounds crew tear up a bush from the entrance. So all-in-all a pretty eventful walk.

After coaching soccer in the very cold (some snow fell!) I watched The Biggest Loser and lifted weights. I did my usual circuit training for the hour. It felt pretty good though my right hip flexor complained a bit.

Ab Ripper X-cellent!

Lunch Walk of 1.0 miles; usual loop. Sunny, mid50s but super windy. I was glad I wore my jacket! Very refreshing since the wind forced me to feel refreshed.

After a long night of taxing taxes Ryan went to do his ab workout and run. I opened a beer and sat down at the computer. Ryan said, "Do this with me." And without thinking I moved onto the floor and joined him for a P90X Ab Ripper X 15 minute workout. I actually did all of it! I kept pleasant surprise mostly to myself during it and waited til it was all done to really feel proud of myself. Every new ab workout Ryan said, "I can't believe you are doing all of this! The first time I did it I couldn't thru all of them." This made me feel good. I guess all this work I have been doing is paying off. I do feel as though I have ab muscles somewhere under the outer layer I can see and I feel that my core/back is definitely stronger.  And it was a nice way to discover that I indeed have those muscles somewhere, because if I didn't have them there is no way I could have survived Ab Ripper X!!! (Part 1 & Part 2). Yay for me!

The Fast and the Thirstiest

In the afternoon I put on my running pants and a T-short and my college soccer 3/4 zip long-sleeves and went to the track. It was in the upper 50s but I as chilly. Once I started running I got very warm and semi-regretted my pants choice. I did 1 warm up lap walk and another one jogging and then removed my long-sleeves. Then I went running.

I wanted to do 3 miles solid. As I started my run I was very thirsty, so this didn't bode well for the remaining 2.75 miles. I struggled to get my thirstiness out of my head but in one of the songs a lyric was "tired of all the dehydration". It wasn't helping. But I finished mile #1 in 8:20. I then decided I wanted to keep or improve on that pace and I did mile #2 in 8:23; so not better but at least not all that worse. I then kept going and continued on trying not to be so thirsty. It wasn't a dry mouth thirstiness but one where your mouth produces a lot of thick unswallowable saliva which causes you to spit a lot. And that is exactly what I did. Again, this didn't help me not think about being thirsty. But I plugged away and completed the 3 miles in 24:49! My fastest solid 3 mile run yet! Despite the thirst I felt good about the accomplishment.

I then went to cool down, but decided to run a few 100m hard runs. So as I did 2 cool down laps I ran the 100m straight aways nice and hard and the final 100m I pushed out the hardest -- the final one was the closest I came to sprinting. Then I stretched a little and drove home.

Milestone: Mile 800!

I walked to go on a walk with Ryan and at first he said Yes. I excitedly went and changed and when I came back downstairs Ryan said that instead he was going to go on a 3 mile run. I asked if he would walk half a mile with me afterwards -- so that we could reach the 800 Mile Milestone together. He said No.

I was disappointed. Ryan went off running. Then I headed out walking. It was a chilly, windy evening. In the sunshine it was comfortable. In the shade and with wind it was a bit too chilly. I wore pants and a hoodie and my safety vest. As I completed my 800th mile I had completely forgotten about it -- until I was somewhere past it. And when I re-remembered about the milestone and thought about how I would have liked Ryan to join me I realized that my actually being alone for the milestone was appropriate. This is My Journey. No one else can accomplish this "feet" except for myself. So I am on this journey alone and that is perfectly fine. I have people who love and support me, but no one else can walk and run these miles except for myself.

As I was heading back towards home I saw Ryan ahead of me and tried shouting for him. But he didn't hear me. So as he went on I walked on and finished out the final .4 miles and then met him at home. Total Workout: 1.5 miles in 26:13.

Lunch Walk

Lunch walk with Matt on a chilly, sunny day. I learned all about horse race betting so I can be prepared for the Kentucky Derby.

Today I took the stairs many times: (1) Up to work, (2) Down to go out to lunch, then (3) Up to go back to the office, (4) Down to go on the walk, then (4) Back Up to the office, and then (5) Down to leave work. Additionally, during the day I went on a 5 minute walk up and down all 8 floors of stairs.

Quick Lap: 1:21!

Sunny 62 degrees and enjoyed myself a 1.0 mile walk with my co-worker Taryn. As per the usual it was quite refreshing to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous day!

When I got home I went to the track for a run. The Post-Recovery plan called for 30 minutes of Run-Form running. When I got to the track it was chilly since I was wearing just shorts and a t-shirt and didn't realize how windy it was. So it was a sunny 57 degrees but with 16mph winds, so it felt much chiller. I did a warm-up lap. Then I did a quick lap - and ran it in 1:31.94! My fastest yet! I rested some, got some water and went on another fast lap. I ran and ran and felt tired but pushed myself -- and I completed that lap in 1:21.9!!! I know I can only run one laps worth at that pace but it was 5:34 mile pace! Crazy!

I then did 2 laps with 100m light jog then 100m hard run/sprint. After that I did two medium jogging laps. I did that mile in 9:19.

After that I stretched a little because I could feel my right calf cramping a bit. And then I went home and on my drive I discovered that my lungs hurt so much that I think I made myself sick from sucking in such cold air into ill-prepared lungs.

Lunch Walk

After 2 days of sitting on my couch inactively recovering from the Half I decided to actively recover. Matt and I went out a lunch time walk in the sunshine. The weather said it was 50 but after walking for a few minutes it felt incredibly hot and I regretted having my jacket on. But the walk itself was nice - and I did not feel sore. I did feel a bit dehydrated and so I planned on drinking a lot of water to help with my recovery.
