I've been walking and running a lot I just haven't been writing it down.... Hmm. It;s gonna be hard to known the progress I've made towards 1500 Miles 2.0 without recording the journey.
A few times I took screenshots on my phone of how long it took me to run - so I have that. But other times I just need to remember what days I've exercised and where I walked.
Alright... so...

A Socky Walk
I had a "free" day without Nora and a "free" night without Ryan but also without a car, and it was a glorious sunshiny 70 degree night so I went out walking just to be out in the amazing air and get some exercise. I semi-did my running loop but added some new pieces just to explore.
The walk was refreshing. And at one point for a few yards the air smelled like it did during college soccer runs to the field - so that took me back to the mile run to practice and just the enjoyment of that run with my teammates. Otherwise it was uneventful other than it felt like a mini-vacation -- just calmness, relaxingness, and being.
I didn't wear the right socks though - the ones I wore were too slippy in my shoes. It is unpleasant to feel your feet move within your shoes every single step. For runs I pick my running socks that are cotton and thicker but for this walk I thought it wouldn't matter. But it did. I'm hoping there was a plus side to the discomfort and that it burned extra calories but also strengthened my ankles and random other ligaments as my body adjusted and shifted every step. I'm sure I will be sore tomorrow, because I was already getting sore towards the end of the walk.
It took 1 hour and 6 minutes to go 3.5 miles.
I love being outside. And I especially love being outside on very nice nights.
New Miles: 3.5
Total Miles: 12.5
Miles Remaining: 1487.5
Weight: 140.0 end of day

Early Morning Run
I went to bed thinking I'd like to run in the morning. Having that in my mind helped me to just get up and do it - for fun no less! I woke up at 6 and was running by 630. I did my 3 mile loop. After 1/2 mile I stretched for 4 minutes. After 1 mile I stretched again. I needed those breaks. But I was out doing and that was what I needed to be doing and so I was fine with taking some re-coup time.
Not many people were out. It was a nice morning already - and warm enough to wear a tank top and shorts. I listened to On The Media and just enjoyed the morning.
Since I paused my stopwatch each time I took a break I had a sense of how long I actually ran for of my 35ish minutes of being out on a run. It was 27:59. I'll take it!
Oh! I'll also note that starting June 1 until June 24 I decided to cut out sweets - so anything that is purely just sugary deliciousness is a no-go. So far so good. Having that challenge and an end point to it is really helping me stick with it. And I haven't gotten angry yet from sugar withdrawal so that is great news!
New Miles: 3.0
Total Miles: 9.0
Miles Remaining: 1491.0
Weight: 142.0ish... I keep fluctuating between 140.0 in the morning and 143.0 later in the day.

A Blimp on the Map
A nice sunny hot day again and Nora and I went over to the my parents and then up to St. Bernard's chapel for a really intimate memorial service for my friend Nate. I walked in and was asked to sing and so that was really special - and it was not nerve wracking since I stood in the back singing with Erica and Fr. Dave. Afterwards we went to Bado's where Nora hung in there despite being tired - and that worked out well after we got home and she went to bed and it wasn't yet dark out and so I could go out front and get some hill work in.
That's right. It hurt like hill.
Actually, I said that just for the pun. I took the first few ups slow and then worked to sprints. For 10x. Up .05 from telephone pole to telephone pole - walk 20 feet then jogged back down - walked 20 feet turned around and walked back to the pole and repeat the sprint. So each set was .1 miles. The math worked out well since I walked an extra one and some back and forth in the driveway as I took out the trash (and then realized due to the holiday tomorrow isn't actually trash day. Oh well.)
While I ran I saw the Good Year Blimp in the sky hovering over the city -- filming an enclosed hockey arena. I imagined that they saw me in the distance doing hill repeats and started to film me for their commercial break footage. That was my motivator. I mean the blimp was very far in the distance but I figured they would have super zoom cameras and of course would just zoom in on me. I was later disappointed to see my grandiose imaginings were inaccurate. But it definitely help me sprint a hard hill 10x.
I did 20 push ups inside when I was done. And intended to do more but then I sat down and watched the Pens game. ...maybe I'll do a few more things before the night is over...
New Miles: 1.25
Total Miles: 6.0
Miles Remaining: 1494.0
Weight: 140.2 (because I weighed myself first thing in the morning)

Lunch Stadium Stroll
Jill and I looped Heinz Field 2x + one extra parking lot for a 1.75 mile walk in 85ish degree sunshine whilst seeing countless trailers and security for the Beyonce concert. I wore flats but since I haven't been walking a lot I developed a blister on my left heel. Oh right, blisters can happen - I re-learned that one today. But it was a nice walk and nice to take a 30 minute break from work.

Inspired to Move
So after spending some time re-reading old blog posts I really did inspire myself to give it a go again. At least for one day.
Actually last night I did 20 push-ups, some crunches, leg raises, and some planks + up-down planks so that was the "official" start. Then today I strollered Nora up to the Memorial Day Parade which was just over 1 mile away. Darcy & fam met us then we hung out and played with them for a while. After lots of fun and food Nora and I strollered home.
Today I walked 3.0 miles with Nora in the sun-burny sun. Then we hung out at a picnic for several hours. I have a sun burn now on my shoulders, but I also completed 3.0 miles. So a fine day overall.
New Miles: 3.0
Total Miles: 3.0
Miles Remaining: 1497.0
Weight: 143.0 (post-picnic over-indulgence weigh-in)

A General Update Generally Speaking
Oh man. I am really struggling with fitness again! I like running. I do. I just don't make myself do it as often as I should. Let's see... does chasing a toddler around count? It really should.
I bought a FitBit in December hoping that would help. But then it wouldn't sync up to my iPhone and so that put a damper on my wearing it. I mainly wanted to see how low my heartrate got when I slept. It used to get down to the low 30s. I discovered this when I broke my ankle and the hospital machine that monitors heartrate kept alarming when I would fall asleep since my heartrate would slow - the nurse relunctantly turned it down a few beats after 5+ times of it occurring and it was the lowest she said she ever saw. Yeah - Go me! ...except that's besides any point I should be making at this point...
I've done a few Gaelic Football practices. I've gone running a few times. Even to the track to add in some plyos and bleacher workouts. I can still run 3.0 miles - be it so slowly it hurts my spirit. It makes me long for days of real fitness and being able to run a mile in single digit land. I'm up around 10:30 pace - that knowledge is killing me! ...Though also the runs kind of kill me... so that is a real life slam to the face telling me that "Hey you! You on the couch! Perhaps you should exercise more?"
On the plus side... my weight. I weigh now what I weighed when I was between 6-7 months pregnant. So... yeah... That also kind of kills morale. It really should be a motivator - it would be nice to lose 10 pounds and be a happy weight. But so far that has only helped me lose 8 pounds though I somehow regained 2? ...oh right, it's probably because I can't stop eating cookies...
And I'm not sure how long the treadmill had been broken before I discovered it was broken. I saw that its light wasn't on and I asked Ryan "Why is it off?" He said, "It's broken. It's been broken for a while." Well, that pretty much sums up how much and how well I've been exercising recently.
So hi there future me reading my blog! You're back here again. How long has it been since I've seen you? 6 months? 1 year? 2? When are you finally going to say enough is enough and walk 1500 miles in your own shoes again??? I'm waiting. You can do this! You've done it before! Now let's go do it again!

About that...
This Journey Take 2 has taken a pause. A big pause and with winter's strong grip thoroughly demoralizing my motivation I don't foresee any journeying happening until the Spring thaw... The road to non-fitness is paved with good procrastination...
Let's see... what have I done in the last two months? Bob Harper Beginner's Fitness DVD a handful of times (once each week for the past 4 weeks). This past Tuesday I did an indoor co-ed Gaelic Football session for 1 hour. Great running around. I somehow did it all and didn't feel terrible. Loads of hard sprints keeping up with the guys. People said I looked in "mid-season form". This was followed by 3 days of great soreness.
New Miles: 0.0+ ...Darn it! I just realized I should have worn my watch to that indoor session.

So... yeah.. umm...
So so much for this second journey... I have walked/run perhaps 3 times in the last 5 weeks. Ok, so maybe a few more than that. But still countable on my two hands. I went to the track a few times and intended to run but walked about 2 miles and then jogged 2 or 3 laps. I think there was one nice day I went on my 3.0 mile loop. A few mornings of my long work week (my year long project finally launched!) I got up and walked 2.0 miles. But again nothing over 3 miles. ...So... yeah... umm...
Not sure I'm going to "officially" do Journey 1500 Part 2.... Ughabug.
Oh also, I got a cold for a week so that didn't help. For 6 days I had the energy level of a lazy house cat.
And let's not blame Christmas, but can I blame Christmas? I have been focused on getting my Christmas presents finished that my spare time has been going into that. But I could have carved out walking or running time and just haven't. So... yeah... umm...
New Miles: Maybe 10.0?
